Gonso - la Pontiga Spain
This poor old fellow is Gonso. He was found by La Pontiga Shelter, Spain, outside a factory where he had been left on his own tied up to a small stone shelter after the factory had closed down. The people left him with no food and no water. He did not fit into the stone shelter, so he had to sleep outside in the rain. He only survived by drinking rain water and was starving when he was found.
He is a lovely big dog, gentle and calm, who would not harm anyone and who lies scared on the floor as soon as he hears loud noises or somebody shouting.
Now the Shelter believes he has developed problems with his pancreas. He has to be taken to the vet, but according to their previous experience with other dogs, they think this might be what is wrong with him.
We do not know the name of the medicine he has to take at the moment, but we will be notified very soon.
Will you please sponsor Gonso and help him to continue to have his medication, and in doing so show him what kindness is?

New video of Gonso - June 2011
Although Gonso is an old dog, he has recovered pretty well and is enjoying life back with his dear friend Mia. The cost of Gonso's operation was more than 1,000 euros. We hope that people will continue to sponsor Gonso so that La Pontiga can continue to pay for his care.

Gonso is now well enough to be back at the shelter after his operation and although he has lost a lot of weight, is on the road to recovery again.

Update and photo of Gonso - 15 May 2011
Unfortunately, we have bad news about Gonso. He became very sick yesterday afternoon (stomach torsion) and suffered lots of pain. The volunteers at the shelter had to make a decision whether to pay for urgent surgery, or to have him euthanised. Gonso is such a lovely dog and when he was rescued the volunteers made the decision that he would always be cared for by them, and they could not let him die because of the cost of an operation.
He had to undergo urgent surgery (in a few hours he would have died if he had not been operated on). Thankfully, he was only in the initial stage of the torsion and his prognosis is good. We hope that he will soon be the lively, happy dog he used to be. The operation, though, was complicated and as it took place at 20:00 on a Saturday, (outside normal working times) it was really expensive. Would you please sponsor Gonso, to help pay for the surgery and the veterinary care afterwards? He deserves our help.

Update on Gonso, 21 August 2010
It is nearly impossible to take a proper picture of Gonso, because he does not stop for a minute and never looks at the camera. But La Pontiga are happy because this means that he is healthy and feels well. Your sponsorship pays for the kreon he takes every day and it is thanks to this that this dog looks beautiful and happy. Please continue to sponsor Gonso so that he can continue to receive the medicine that he desperately needs.

Update on Gonso, 18 April 2010
Last saturday was very hot and all the dogs were quiet and taking a nap. Gonso was enjoying himself. He has now gained weight and is beautiful thanks to the Kreon that he takes everyday (paid for by his sposor at AMCF). La Pontiga say, nevertheless, that being obedient is not one of Gonso`s qualities...
